Bayou 220 Oil Leak
Has anyone here had trouble with oil leaking on the 220?
My son's 220 has oil leaking arround a piece that looks like it may be used to adjust the valves. This particular section also has a vent tube comming out of it. It has two bolts that hold it on and I have made sure they are tight. Any ideas? Thanks.

The cover that is leaking the oil is the timing chain cover. The covers to adjust the valves are above the exhaust pipe and carburetor on the "front" and "back" of the engine.
If the bolts on the cover are tight, then the gasket will need to be replaced. The cover has an O-ring that is used to provide the seal. The O-ring is made of some sort of an elastomer and the heat of the engine will cause it to shrink and harden over time. When that happens, the leak starts. You can get a replacement from your local Kawasaki dealer. I think the cost of the O-ring is around $5 to $6 or so. It is an easy job to do; should take about 10 minutes total time (that includes rounding up the sockets and ratchet to remove the cover.)
By the way, the two covers for adjusting the valves also have O-ring gaskets on them. If they start leaking, it is a simple replacement for them as well. Obviously, a different size O-ring is used for those covers than the one for the timing chain cover.
