the rear diff gets Mobil 424 (or equiv.). the Kawichem wet brake oil is supposed to be the Mobil in the Kawi packaging. amsoil is fine. amsoil reccomends their powersports 10W-40 for all but the coldest conditions. this is ok in both front diff and engine. quite a few guys use it. whatever you use has to be wet clutch compatable. (api code has to be ok in your owners manual).

i use the Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40 but there are many good oils out there.

there are tons of good filters that fit. there is a list on Nyrocks site (in the Tech tips under Prarie. the prarie and brute use the same filter). i have the K&N (kn-204) in it right now, but will use the Mobil 1 (m1-110) next because it is longer (more filter surface area and crud capacity). both of these filters are made to work best with synthetics.

but there are a long list of filters to choose. there are car filters that will fit, many motorcycle filters that fit, and the regular ol' kawi filter.

I tried amsoil in my front diff last thursday and here's my results. with regular 4stroke oil in the front diff it took only about a foot and a half to two feet for it to kick into 4x4 nomatter how slow you are going (creeping)I changed over to amsoil and saturday I noticed that it was taking approx. 6-7ft before it would enguage and only if you were going over 3mph. as a mudbogger this is a HUGE problem with me. I flushed out the diff and refilled with regular 4stroke oil and viola, no problems with the diff shifting into 4x4. I dont know what it is that amsoil does but its not good. BTW, the amsoil was what the kawi dealer suggested but didnt work for me. as for motor oil, you can use any good car oil, just make shure you get one with a antifoaming agent, (most synthetic blends fall into this catagory) for a filter I use the bosch 3300 I tried several different brands and after cutting them open the bosch seemed to be the best at filtering. I use quakerstate full synthetic in my engine, and regular dino oil in the front diff. seems to work for me. as for the rear diff you can get a transhydrolic fluid from walmart made by supertech that is safe for wetbrakes, 2 gallons is like 8 bucks. works great! but let me be the first to tell you NOT to use amsoil. its a waste of 8 bucks a bottle. the quakerstate full synthetic is like 2 bucks a quart at oriellys. the bosch filters are from autozone at about 5 dollars a piece.

Having diffierent oil should not change the 2/4wd shifting pattern which is controlled electro-mechanically via Control unit and actuator - not hydraulically. That's a news to me.

I use the same fluid in the rear diff as John Deere taractors use same stuff, front diff, kawi-chem 10w40 same as engine. These things use so little fluids its a waste of time to worry about a few dollars here and there, try changing fluids in a big rig sometime, maybe then you need to watch it.
