Clutch Slipping
#1
I have a friend that has a 92 Bayou 300 that he bought used. In 4th and 5th gear the clutch seems to slip a little when accelerating hard. It doesn't seem to bother on in lower gears even when pulling fairly steep hills. Is there a way to adjust the clutch on the Bayou's? Should it be adjusted yet? I have only ridden Prairies so I haven't delt with the automatic clutches.
Thanks.
Thanks.

yep, adjust the clutch, it is a piece of cake. My Bayou exhibited similar slip in the higher gears. There will always be some slip as speed becomes too slow for the particular gear you are in but adjusting clutch should improve the engagement. Clutch adjustment is easy, remove adjusting screw cover, loosen clutch release adjusting screw locknut, turn adjusting screw clockwise until it becomes hard to turn, then turn adjusting screw counterclockwise until becomes hard to turn, then tighten locknut without changing the adjusting screw position.

Right on, as far as adusting the secondary clutch!
The primary, centrifugal clutch can slip, too, its shoes are worn or glazed (burned). In a high gear, if rpm's decrease, less centrifugal force is availale to force the shoes into contact with the drum; if the shoes are worn or glazed, they're likely to slip.
Unfortunately, there's no adjustment for the centrifugal clutch. If that's the problem, try replacing the clutch shoes only (assuming the drum is o.k.). You DON'T want to pay for a complete centrifugal clutch!
