Default Picked up 05 BF 650 Camo Friday

Thanks to everyone who gave their input on what I should purchase. I went with the Brute Force in camo and got it at a pretty good deal. $5699 OTD. I put about 4 hrs on it this weekend and had a blast. I do want to add a few things to it though. First off I want some CV boot guards. What do you suggest for this? Also I really would like to adjust the rear shock, but I tried and couldn't get it to budge. There has to be a trick to it, but I can't figure it out. Please let me know how to do this and also give me some suggestions on protection add ons. I'm really not concerned about speed mods.

Thanks,
Drew

Congrats on your new Kawi.

The easiest way to adjust the preload is to remove the shock and set it up on a vise. If you don't want to remove the shock, then raise up the bike in the air so there is no load on the shock. Then loosen the upper lock nut, then adjust the lower adjusting nut to your desiredd setting. The usable range for the spring free length is from 11.9" to 12.4".

I had good luck with Aluminum Products for CV guards on Kawis - check any ATV magazine and they have a whole bunch there.

Thanks. Do I use that wrench supplied to do the adjustments? To lift it should I jack it up or rig up something raise it from the ceiling?

I use motorcycle/ATV jack to lift. PepBoys, Kragen, even CostCo sells one for less than $80, but one from Craftsman/Sears seems to be the best quality (and the highest $).

Yes, use the tool in your black pouch. It is cheap and wimpy looking tool but it fits and works ok. Good luck.

CV boot guards?
I've had both now, the Aluminum Products and the Ricochet, between the two, I prefer the Ricochet, they cost the same.

You are going to want to get rid of it. It's hell loading it back on the trailor and trying to go home when all you really want to do is go again. LOL I drove the 750 last weekend and I'm told the 650i works good too but man that 750 was a mean monster. I think one of those are going to be in my name by the end of the year. enjoy it

Thanks to all who replied. I am pretty happy with it. I can't wait to take it out again. Another question I have is about the inner fender splash guards. Does the 05 650 need these? I see all the talk about the 750 needing them, but nothing about the 650. Please let me know so I can get some ordered. Thanks, Drew

No, your '05 650 (SRA) does not need optional inner guards. Your 650 already comes with the "real" inner splash guards that protect the carb/intake from muds/water kicked back by front wheels. Your 650 also has a relatively better designed snorkel for air intake than that of the 750. Just don't submarine your quad too deep in water.
