Hi Guys,

I put 2 quarts in the Brute and the dipstick continually reads at the minimum amount on the checkered part. What gives? I do not want to overfill this thing, but having it on minimum bugs me too.

Help!

 

When you were checking, did you screw in the dip stick or just rest it on the top?

I screwed it in snug each time. I am wondering if I should put in the 2.05L called for on a dry engine. I shouldn't have to though. I think 2 quarts is more than sufficient. What do you think Hayashi? By the way, thanks for helping Kawi owners. You always seem real knowledgable on all things Kawi.

You measured corretly - screwing it in.
Capacity is about 2 liters which equals to about 2.7 U.S. quarts. Don't get units mixed up.
After adding oil, run the engine, wait 5 minutes, then measure.

Hayashi, thanks for the tip. I confused the units in my head. Kept going from quarts to liters. My mistake. I added about a 1/4th of a quart and the dipstick measures exactly halfway between L and H. Just goes to show, take you time even with simple maintenance stuff.

FYI...My Kawi dealer told me not to screw in all the way because it wouldn't be accurate. I checked the manual and it says to screw it in to check...who to believe?

 

Your dealer is wrong. You definately need to screw it in all the way to get an accurate reading.

 

All current Kawi ATVs require the dip stick to screwn in when measuring. Honda is opposite I believe.
