Default trouble w/ 750

last night i took my 750i bf for a trail ride. it was easy riding for about 45 mins between 10- 30 mph. then when i got close to home i really got on it and when it hit near 45 50 mph it died down and backfired. now there is a terrible noise in the motor like something is clinging around. i had just installed the copperhead cdi and the first 45 mins it rode great. any ideas still under warranty with only 100 miles on it

With only 100 miles on it, you probably have less than 10 hours. This is break in period and I would not have installed anything on it. It could be alot of things. Take it in for warranty and see what it is. It will be a lessoned learned for everyone. I hope you post back what the problem is.

It's a long shot, but maybe the Map in your VDI became corrupted and is causing pretetonation. if your quad does it at the same RPM in either high or low and was running fine before I would switch maps or replace the VDI with the stock unit until you can determine the cause.

I'm with roofer on this one saying that the engine is pretty much brand new and hasn't had the time to break everything in and let is run on its own so if you still have the old cdi box try putting the stock one back on for now and ride it and see if there is any change and ride it for a while then in the future put the copperhead back on

well put the old cdi on and then check the heat shield, and bruteforce bob was right the thing is falling apart on me after 100 miles. and on the break in it says 10 hours or 60 miles i put on 60 easy miles with out going much over half throttle, except for maybe a few seconds here and there usually kept it around 45 miles. if i went a whole 10 hours it would probally take the whole summer to break it in

join the club, i think everyones heatshield bolts worked loose. i have a feeling its do to the heat(expansion/contraction). put a little loctite or a lock washer and your good to go.

Good to hear it was something simple. I put on 10 hours a 120 miles in about a week. You must drive faster than I do.
