Default KFX 700 Carb problem

Hayashi, am I right in thinking that changing the needle jet is the same as shimming the needle jet, which i would much rather go with changing the needle, sounds to me like the correct wayto fix the problem.I am asking because I have the same problem as shortyno11 and its driving me crazy. Going out to check for leaks first .Thanx kevin

Yes, (1) shimming (raising a needle) and (2) changing to thinner (richer) needle jet are bascially the same, in a sense that you are increasing the size of the passage for the fuel flow. However, in my experience on my 750, the changing the needle jet gave me smoother throttle response due to its smoother shape of the tapering. I had orginally shimmed the front carb but it was little rough at the bottom end when I gave gas even though the coughing/intake popping was fixed. After changing to a richer needle jet, it was whole a lot smoother transition from the low end to the midrange power curve.
