If there is nothing flashing on the meter, you shouldn't normally worry about it.
Here is some tech info:
It is not really a function of distance that determines the 2WD and 4WD shifting. It is rather a speed reqirement, data trasmitted by the speedo sensor - the control unit's EEPROM is programmed to shift betwen 0.5 and 12.5 MPH only. This is to prevent damaging any engagement gears. That's why you don't see the LCD meter changing between 2WD and 4WD at cetertain speeds (<0.5 MPH and >12.5 MPH) regardless of distance you traveled even though you toggled the switch a while ago.
