You can get Amsoil from a number of dealers online. I think the ATV 0w40 and 10w40 range from $6-8 a quart depending on the dealer, so shop around.

Walmart has their own 100% synthetic in 5 & 10W30, I think the brand is Supertech. I looked into the manufacturer a while back...I think it is Havoline if I remember correctly. Has ratings similar to the regular Mobil 1. It doesn't have the Jaso MA rating, but I know a bunch of guys that have used it in Kawie V-twins with no problems. For $12 a 5qt jug, you can afford to change it a little more often if you want.

As far as filters, there are many choices. I use the Wix 51356 (same as Napa Gold 1356). Not sure if the BF 650 has the same amount of room as the 750, but this is a bigger filter. Also, a lot of guys on Kawieriders swear by the Purolator Pure One PL14610. I think both are about half the $$ of the Kawie filter and very good quality. You can find hours of reading on filters, but either of these will be great if you change your oil regularly.

I hope this helps.

You can google in "amsoil dealers in my area" and go from there. I found a dealer 3 miles from my house that way!

Rotella is made by shell and is a commercial diesel oil...because of this it has different additives then regular "car" oil sold by walmart and auto joints. 10-40 is not available in rotella synthetic only 5-40 as far as I know. There's quite a bit of information on this oil do a google search.

If you do want a pure synthetic go with amsoil or redline.

well I couldn't find any amsoil dealer so I just took the jar of vasoline & bought Mobile synthetic MX4 10w40...
next step is changing the rear & front diff's.. I assume mobile 424 is just as good as kawi's special lube right?

Mobil 424 is perfect for Kawi's REAR gear case which has wet brake plates.
Use engine oil 10W-40 (I use synth) for FRONT diff gear case - NO GEAR oil there.

In regards to synthetic oil, I've been told that once you go to synthetic you have to stay with synthetic. Is this true and what are the implications of putting in standard oil after running synthetic?

I switched back and forth betwen dino and synth oil (depending on my pocket condition), and noticed no obvious oil related problems on my vehicles (cars, bikes, quads, etc.). I am curious to know what scientific theory is behind for experiencing such problem. ???

My thoughts exactly. I got the advice from the Honda dealer. When asked why that is I got, "Is it what it is". In other words, he didn't have a clue.
