ATV Break In
#1
Hey everyone. I'm new to the ATV stuff, but I've been riding jetski's for years now. My question is what is the best way to break in an ATV? I would assume it'll be someone similar to a jetski, except your not in the water. I have been doing some looking around on the web and came across this article for a "Hard Break in" heres the link: Break in Secrets . Now granted I'm sure everyone has their own opinion on the proper way to "Break in" whether it be a jetski or ATV, but I found that article and wanted a better opinion from people who have ridden ATV's most of their lives. I will be buying my first ATV come this Monday (06 Brute Force 650 IRS). Thanks for any replies!

All of the info on that site seemed to make sense as far as the engine is cocerned. However I have read that the break-in period is not only for the engine but also allows for the belt to be properly seated & streeched to ensure a tight fit. I have read that their is belt problem with knuckles breaking in the brutes & Kings and A "soft break-in" can reduce the problem. So I myself am confused as to which is a better method. I definitly want the most power out of my engine but also proper belt tension. My new camo 750 is comming this weeek so any other info would help me as well. Maybe if you give it a couple hard shots for the first mile or two and than take it easy for the next 20?

I would think the same thing, I'm still up in the air on the proper Break in thing. I know breaking in my jetski was the same way, did it by MFG suggestion. It only last 5yrs however before my oilpump blew out and the engine got smoked. So if belt tension be the main concern, its better than buying a new motor outside the warranty. Besides, its my first, and I dont see myself going crazy on it anyways, so it will be a moderate break in for me.
