10W-40 motor oil (preferably synthetic) about half a quart or until it flows out of the fill hole.

i heard synthetic oil in the front diff causes the clutch pack to slip when trying to lock it. i'm gonna stick to conventional 10w-40 dinosaur oil.

I've had synth oil in my front diff for almost 3 years in my '05 BF and NO PROBLEM what so ever. Even if it slips a bit, I'd rather let it slip than seize the spider gears there. It's your choice.

no, no. if it has been working for you than thats great. this is just something that i read on a forum. i just use the regular 10w-40 because that was in the manual. besides, i change it quite often and tend to fill at a slight angle to get a touch more oil in there.

thanks for the info guys.

my supermoto bike has a slipper clutch in it and it would not work with full synth oil....

i think i will try the full synth in this and see how it works

Thanks for this info, I have been wanting to use synthetic for some time but have stuck with the dino because of the manual. Time to change to synthetic.

use 80-90, or 75-90 Amsoil gear oil in the front and rear diffs of my Cat, and it works great.

ya cant use gear oil in a wetbrake rear diff. ya need wetbrake specific oil(kawi wetbrake, mobil 424, and such). the kawi front diffs call 10w40, same as motor, synthetic or not, your choice. i wouldnt use gear oil in a diff lock setup unless called for.
