well what color is the smoke if its black you are getting to much gas if its blue you are burning oil whitch is most likely rings and if the smoke is white then you have water in your gas or oil.

its white smoke.. my son just changed the oil, but he put regular oil in it, and i was using synthetic.. also theres no water in the oil.. my son put huskee oil 4 cycle 10w30 from tractor supply, maybe i should put synthetic oil back in it.. i want to get rid of it needs a starter clutch, and i have to kick start it.. im looking at the 750 kawasaki or the polaris800..

i would try the oil like you said if that does not work drain the gas and put new gas in the tank and carb. b/c white smoke means theres water somewhere in your system

i put synthetic back in its a little less smoke now. to touch the engine its seems hot to the touch.. its still got power and stars good.. the oil i took out had no signes of water.. i drained the gas no water.. im going to change the thermostate. the water pump seems to be working ..i can feel the pressure in the hose pumping...

The first thing I would do is:
#1 Check to make sure the sump is not over filled. (and with the correct oil)
#2 Do a compression/ Leak-down test. (quit guessing, this test will tell you a lot.)
#3 If those two come out ok, about your last option is start tearing the top end off and see what's up.

PS for those of you that think oil can only smoke blue, you have never seen a turbo blow a seal!!!! Jame Bond has nothing on that. Tons of cotton white smoke.
