running fine. . .2 seconds later won't start

2006 KFX 400. Less than 15 hours on unit. Never been in mud or even rain. Started it up the other day - the engine was cold. Tried to rev it a little like you do to keep it running although it would have run fine if I had just left it alone because I rarely even have to choke it. Anyhow, when I reved it, it kilt the engine and I heard that little "zing" sound (don't know what makes that sound. . .). When I tried to start it back up, it never would start like it always has before.
It has a full tank of gas. The petcock is turned to run. Tried cranking while choking and all the tricks I know. Also put in a new spark plug - the other had heavy carbon - I thought for sure that was it but it obviously wasn't.
Help please!

Need more info so that others can help you better.
1). Do you have a good spark?
Remove the plug and crank. Check to see if blue spark jumps to the ground/chassis from the plug's electrode.
2). Do you have a good compression?
Use a compression gauge or place your thumb on the plug hole and feel it.
3). Do you have a good fuel supply?
Remove the fuel line LEFT side of the fuel petcock and see if fuel flows out freely.
Above is just a basic check for any ic engines. You may just have a bad starter one-way clutch that is slipping.

Hayashi - thanks for the help. Got it running today! Took the fuel line off and fuel was pouring out from the left side of the petcock. Out of curiosity I tried to start it and it fired off. All I can figure is maybe it got flooded last weekend or something?? Probably needed the new plug too. Anyhow, thanks again!

Good to hear that you got your quad runnin again.
You might have had a vapor lock (like a air got trapped in fuel line) and the air got purged out when you disconnected the fuel line at the fuel petcock. Or there could have been some kind of debri blocking the fuel flow. If your fuel petcock is not vacuum operated , it's always a good idea to turn to OFF position when not riding for more than a week to avoid flooding or hydrolocking the cylinder. And purge out the fuel line to flush once in a while.
