Hi All,

Just bought my first quad...the KFX 450R, bone stock. So what are the initial add-ons and/or upgrades I should do? What idiosyncracies do the bikes have when new should I watch out for?

thanks!

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the Kawi family!! I dont know a whole lot about the mods for the 450 but im sure the good Kawi people on here will chime in on this. Zbutcher should be able to give some good advice to you on this! Enjoy the new ride!!

Congrats. It is one of my favorites. How will you ride it? and How much $$ do you want spend on upgrades?
It is your first quad, and belive me......it is fast enough, and will get you in trouble if you pusch it as it is without any upgrades. I would just ride it for a while, learn the machine, brake it in properly and figure out your favorite riding type. From there if you want more power, it is cheap and easy. It will cost you about $150 or so for a air intake, and if you replace the spark arrestor for a screan type, you will get a few horsepower right there. another $500 for a efi unit and a slip on pipe, and you are running 50 at aprox. horses. Next step is tires.

Thanks for the welcoming words. Yes, I am sure I will take my time, thats the smartest thing to do, especially being a new rider.

But I am also kind of a technical buff, so i love hearing what can be done, even if I'm not ready for it yet.

Thx stillZ1 I hope I can....
Gratz on the new ride badhemi06...

What color did ya get???

Not sure if the new ones were updated or not, But watch for leaking gas tank their was a recall on them back in like june, the fuel pump gasket does not seal right to the tank, watch for a very small amount just around the seal on the bottom side of the tank or some on your battery cover....other then that mine has been great, right out of the box it is geared very low, a15 tooth front sprocket (like 18$) will help out, If your dealer dont have 1 a kx450f dirtbike one will work or a yzf front (i have not tryed the yzf sprocket)

Like 450YFZRIDER had stated there are a few ez mods to make more hp fuel controler, ehs air box lid, spark arrester out, which ran me about $300 makes a nice 3 to 4 hp the KFX is 1 of the most restrictive or corked up quads I have ever seen

I hope that help's ya out a little bit, if ya have some more queastion's let me know....

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I have been reading that its one of th most estricted units on the market to start out. Great info regarding the tank, I will keep a close eye on it.

Not sure what is meant by how I will ride it. I will be spending lots of time at Glamis, but I am also looking for fun alternatives.....

I'd like to hear thoughts on single vs dual pipes for exhaust on this 450. I am a bit of a car nut and have always been a believer of expanded dual performance exhaust on my vehicles, but I hear some folks like a single performance exhaust because it can give a bit of boost from the back pressure. thoughts?

And it being a kawi, well there was really no option for me....its the Lime Green.
