Default Mojave Problems.....please any info will help

Ok well I just bought a Mojave and I got it home and it starts and runs fine........idles good and all that.......The problem is it wants to bog down about anywhere past half throttle when in neutral and when in gear i can even give it that much throttle......I took the carb off and cleaned it.....might not have cleaned it good enough not sure.....i did blow the cleaner through the holes of the jets and then used my compressor to push air through them......sill no luck.....it will kick start easily it just doest want to run right..........also......im leaking out the back of the airbox.....the part that is near the rear shock.....and when looking inside there i see some type of bag or somthing??? dont know.......im not very good with mechanical stuff but i know a lil........any ideas guys? I really hope its nothing major.....lol took all the money i had saved....btw wasnt very much just to buy this thing so i can ride with my buddies.....have always loved the way the Mojave looks and i finally got one.....it just doest want to run right for me...........any help will be greatly appreciated....thanks

First off, welcome to the forum

First thing that comes to mind is that the jetting is off. But, when you posted something about a bag or something at the back of the airbox I would first confirm what that is and go from there.

And the jets need to be removed from the carb body to clean them. If you blow cleaner and air thru them, while still in the carb body....youre forcing dirt and grit the wrong way. It needs to come out, not go deeper in.

Your air filter is disconnected.... Or for some reason not enough air restriction from the filter. If your carb is the CVK34 Keihin, that means its a CV carb and its EXTREMELY picky when it comes to airbox and airfilter setup. The throttle depends on engine vacuum to open. What you open with your thumb is NOT the throttle,, just a butterfly valve that lets engine vacuum thru to the back of the carb. Put the airbox and the airfilter back the way it was when it came from the factory or else get a new non-cv carb. Another thing it "could" be is the diaphragm at the top of the carb might have a hole in it. That would stop the throttle from opening. But still,,,, if you really want that quad to perform like it should,,, get a regular ole mikuni carb.

Maybe $150 for a new roundslide (cheaper if you can find a used one). Then a little jetting after that. You'll gain throttle response and the topend will come on sooner and stronger. Check out bikebandit for some decent prices, but you might find them cheaper elsewhere. The 32mm should be good enough for that size engine. The big debate right now is whether we (230 riders) should be using a 28mm or a 32mm with our 260cc big bore kits. Most seem to be settling on the 28's, but the 32mm has me curious. A few guys have had good luck with the 32's, but a few reputable people have said 28 is big enough. Since you had the 34mm CV, I'd say the 32 roundslide is a decent choice (the CV's are always a bit bigger than the regular carbs for the same engines of different model yrs). A 34 could be too much.

CV carbs are just like that.... You have to hold the throttle open for a decent amount of time before the revs get up there. My bud's warrior is the same way.

Do you have the valve specs and know the procedure for checking them?
