Guy's please let me tell you about this ATV, It was used as a shuttle vehicle on a parking lot, it was never used off road (looks like new). 2004 3010 gas powered MULE,, I love the look of this thing just need a little more speed to be able to use it,The mule has about 800 hours idles fine sounds good, the problem is this it seems to not accelerate, I know it has a governor for over reving but it needs to at least rev half way down the pedal travel ... because I've done some reading on the forum, but in nuetral it should rev up more than it does. it seems to start to rev up but when you push the gas pedal down it seems to go up about double the idle speed in RPM'S then the governor kicks in or the exhaust is restricted ? ,,, since it was used for shuttle rides could the exhaust system be restricted , does the muffler need replacement or cleaning or what ?, and top speed is only about 20 miles per hour, at low speed it seems to have good torque, but completely falls on its nose at anything above 1000, to 1500 rpm.... if their is something I should look at or try , or if you have experienced this please HELP

 

Ya, i believe thats just how they are. My cousins have one its a great machine for pulling and work but it aint no speed demon.

 

If it's got 800 hrs, I would check the CVT belt deflection. New/tighter belt will aid a bit on the top speed. Kawi Mules have mechanical engine governer that restricts the rpm since this was designed for work not recreational use. Also check the air filter as well. But even at its top condition, it won't do more than 25 mph in stock.

and also what esle can I do to improve speed, I want to drive it on the street, but at this speed horns will honk all day, should I remove or modify the governor, since it's mechanical I could wire it open when the throttle opens it does also.. a zip tie or wire

 

Two things to check:

First
Get a two straight edges. Place one edge on top of the belt. The edge should be longer than the distance between the center of the drive and driven converters. So, this edge is your baseline. Then, apply 13 lbs of force in the middle of the belt on the top. Using the 2nd edge, perpendicular to the first edge, measure how much the belt has deflected downward. It should be no more than 33 mm. If too much, you need to make it tighter by removing a shim or two from the driven converter.

Second
The belt width should be no less than 29 mm at the widest point. If less, you need a new belt regardless of the belt deflection.
