I Need to know where to purchase an entire new engine for my 04 kfx 400.

you know where the gear shifter is, well theres a whole the size of about 2 quaters right behind it.

So would i need to buy an entire engine? please me asap

 

You could probably get away with a new crank case man. (bottom end) I wouldn't go buy a complete new motor unless you have some dough to spend. The crank, rod, bearings, piston, ect are most likely useable unless that piece of metal ended up inside the engine (get out your pocket book).

Worst comes to worst, goto the dealer. Check Ebay, Craigslist, scrap yards, even on here in the wanted/for sale threads.

How much would a new crank case run?

I know nothing bout working on them, but i know that it leaked all the oil out, and you could wiggle the gear shifter.

 

were you running it at all after the oil leaked (not knowingly?) because then you prolly would've ruined the bearings, need the crank turned, ect. Even running it with low oil can ruin things.

I have no idea how much it would cost, there has to be a local shop in your town that does motor work. I would just wait and see if anyone else responds on here, if not...goto the dealer/a local motor shop. The motor shop (if they handle atv engines) would be able to tell you what you all needed.

Just be careful...make them show you everything before handing them money. I'm not saying all shops are "shady" but they can tell you this and that, and give you parts you never needed in the first place=$$$$.

if you decide to go that route, look at pictures of bearings, crank jounals, basically everything that spins around inside the motor. Look at good pics, then look at bad pics. You'll get a basic knowledge of what things are supposed to look like, and when they are damaged. That way when you say...."show me the bad parts" you'll be aware if they are trying to rip you off or not.

 

My dad came over and said the hole is in the transmission, so is this like very bad or just bad?

 

well, either way it's bad because now you have to spend money.

if it's the tranny, that's better in my opinion than the actual motor. I would just start pricing transmissions now, unless you can buy the outta part (cover). I'm not exactly sure how it's set up. My quad is at home.
