Default Leaking carb

I just pick up a 91 KLF 300C Bayou. Cleaned & Soaked carb body and installed a carb kit, the unit runs but leaks out of the bottom of the bowl. I have already tried replaced the o ring on the drain needle but did not work.....Is there a seat for the drain needle I am missing or did I assemble the carb wrong any help or comments would be help full..thanks Brian

Check your float level adjustment, there should be a procedure for this in the rebuild kit .

The float level adjustment is right. Your float is set too high and is overflowing into the drain. The bowl overflow bypasses the drain screw.

Thanks for the feed back. The top of the needle were it attaches to the float it is spring loaded so I have no way to adjust the float. The carb only seems to leak now when the unit is off and not when it is running.

Almost all of them are spring loaded. Rare do you find one that isn't. So it can still be adjusted with the tang on the float. You may want to change the needle and seat so it will seal better. If not, just shut your gas line off when you shut off the bike.

It is a new needle with the teflon type material which I thought would replace the seat...correct me if I'm wrong. I thought the float was non-adjustable since it was spring loaded, so the float should sit parallel to the carb base when the carb is upside down just as with a small mower engine. thanks again for the help

Floats don't always sit parallel to the carb base. More likely it is a measurement specified by the manufacturer. Viton needles are only part of the equasion - the seat is just as important for the seal.
