Default 97 300 lakota HELP

runs for a few seconds?
what does the spark plug look like?
what does the GAS look like? fresh? dirty? crap in the carb gas?

Here's what I would do
0: send me the old carb (because you like my advice)
1rain tank, add an inline filter, replace gas
2: remove the sparkplug and spin the motor a couple seconds
3: replace sparkplug with NEW one
thumb throttle 3 times, pull out the choke (pull left)
4: test start and see how it runs..
5: if it dies in a couple seconds
pull plug and see if it's wet from gas
6: if still fails, remove plug and spin motor for a second, restart -- pull plug.. do this 3-5 times
7: push choke all the way IN, (right) and repeat above

what i've seen on these is 1: wrong pilot jet installed, 2: choke plunger screwed up, 3, bad float/needle, crap in the gas.

all that not work, pull your carb, turn the fuel mixture screw all the way in. Not gorilla turn it in, but watch the needle come up into the throat, and then back down 2.5 turns ..

If you think the carb is bad, send both of them to me, with a moose kit, and i'll send you back one KNOWN working "rebuilt" carb.. I'll keep the other, as payment.. but i'll test yours to be known good

you might notice, from my signature, that I love lakotas.. and can always use a carb!

K,
could be timing, could be valves, could be carb boot, could be electrical -- i hate electrical problems!

when you say good compression, is it over 140?

i would start at timing, but its only an hour or 2 to adjust valves and check/adjust time...

i am about to swap the head and jug on mine, and then take those parts off and put on my own basket case bike
