prairie 650 issues.

hey everyone. i picked up a 02 prairie 650 around x-mas paid 2800 for it. it seems to have all kind issues tho. let me try to start off on this lol
the only 2 major issues i need help with are as follows.
the 4x4 only works in reverse. the light stays on and u can hear something. like a grind. it trys to catch but won't now mind u. theres no issue in reverse. it will go up anything in reverse. but soon as u go back into fwd. it won't work.
next issue seems to be a belt issue but im not convinced yet. its fine for a while. u can speed just enjoy the time for about 20 mins or until the machine gets nice and warm. then it seems almost like the belt slips. i've replaced the belt same issues. im not so sure it should be that loose. ie i can slide it on with a screw driver easy. or sometimes by spinning the pully a bit. my issue is. its fine till it heats up. it will pick up speed slip pick up speed slip as u rev the throttle a buncha times. i was having some squealing at first when in gear. also in gear it seems to try to go almost at idle. thats why im not so sure the belt is too loose. u can hear it rev up. and something is spinning inside. makes me think its something other then the belt. tho the belt does start to smell. the belts not too tight by the looks. just trying to sort this machine out for my cus. hes got about 2 years to live figure he should enjoy it. but i can not seem to get these issues worked out. any help is always appreciated.

Get a factory service manaual and follow the diagnostic procedure for your 4WD engagement problem in forward. It could be actuator, controller or even the igniter.
Same thing for your belt issue. You need to use the proper procedure to measure the belt deflection amount. And it even may need to be adjusted by taking out or adding shims in the converter.
Follow the service manual and do it right.

When you said "double" spline, meaning inboard and outbard CV axle shaft ends like below?

Is there CV axles that are NOT double splined?

ahh yes. sorry. i do intend to get a book they are very useful. i've never worked on the p650. my other polairs had these dubble splined axles. they had a fwd grab and a reverse grab. teeth went 2 diffy ways. these are normal ones tho. so its gotta be something stopping it from engaging in fwd. just so odd it works in reverse with no issues. but grinds in fwd when it trys to catch. never seen an issue like this before. maybe its going to need to go to the dealer. dunno tho. its a lemon i debated suing the person we got it from. for $2800. has 3064 miles. 630 hours. it should run good for what i paid for it. just a pain. my cus may need to go without and i'll put the 8x8 back together for him. because this looks like its going to be costly to fix.

hey so. i left the boot off the cvt. now when this starts slipping its making a metal sound like something vibrating like crazy. i checked the belt its not the belt. its not slipping. its something jingling around like some spare change. any idea what to check next?

So you're gonna sue somebody over issues with a used bike? Was there a warranty? If you want something like new then buy new, sounds like you either got unlucky or just didn't look at it carefully enough before buying

i got the bike used from ebay. it was from a dealer. they stated the bike was in great shape. had no issues. and was just serviced with a new belt and oil change. which was not the case. the belt was old and the oil was pure black. burned up pretty bad. so no i did not expect new. i expected in great working shape. or atleast ok working shape. i expected the belt to be newer. and the oil to be good as stated. but the 4x4 didn't work nor does the machine itself. further more it seems its unfair to trust ppl u get things from these days. legally it does fall under the lemon law. as all motorized vehicles with a motor are covered by it. suing is Not out of the question. if u went and got a machine from the dealer. and u have it shipped for $500. u get it and nothing works as promised ur going to just suck it up and say "oh well" cause i highly doubt it.

Do you have any paperwork proving what dealer told you about the condition of the quad?
Is the selling dealer within the same jurisdiction covered by the small claims court in your state?
What is the specifics of the lemon law in your state?
In Calif, you have to take the vehicle to an authorized repair shop/dealer for 3 times or more within a 6-month period for the same problem in order to be eligible for the lemon law.
