1999 220 Bayou
#1
hello
I have a chance to buy a 99 220 bayou , it hasnt been started for a few years, gas smells bad, it wil only run with the choke on, wont rev unless you hold your finers over the intake.
Does some one make a carb rebuild kit for this machine?
Should i take it back?
They want $800 for it

Thanks for all your help. I took the carb off and removed bowl cover, everything looked good. I cleaned all passages and jets cleaned everything. reassembled. gassed up and still the same thing. this thing will only run when choke is on, i even ran to town and bought a new spark plug . Could the valves be burned? `

I am sorry to tell you but you have to take the carb and clean again. This time very throughly. Running with choke ON only clearly means that engine is not getting enough fuel with the choke OFF. First you have to understand that the CHOKE on your quad is NOT really a choke/butterfly valve that opens and closes. But it is REALLY a fuel enrichening device, a valve that opens to let in more fuel into the carb.
I don't know how you cleaned the carb. The BEST way is to dip the whole carb body into carb cleaning fluid something like B-12 WITH EVERY SINGLE RUBBER PART (like rubber tipped float valve, o-rings, etc.) removed. The cleaner will eat through rubber parts, then even bigger headache.
