I went all summer not needing, and not touching, the choke lever on my '01 Lakota. At one point I decided I'd better work the lever a bit to keep it from seizing up. Well, I decided too late and it was very hard to move. I tried too hard and the plastic in the lever broke apart. Now, in addition to buying a new lever, I'm wondering if lubricating the cable will get it to move smoothly. What type of lubricant should be used? How should it be done? Would the lubricant seep out the other end of the cable (within the carb) and harm the workings in there? Or should I replace the cable? What kind of ordeal would that be? I replaced the clutch cables on the Warriors, and that was pretty simple, but I don't know if getting inside the carb to undo the old cable would make things more complicated.

 

I ended up purchasing a new choke cable and cable lubricant. I also had the carb rebuilt because gas was overflowing, and I used the opportunity while the ATV was half-apart to clean the inner sides of the plastics, and tomorrow I will repaint a few rust spots on the frame under the seat/fuel tank.
