Default CV joint protectors. yes or no?

I was looking at the $125 set of four CV joint guards and was wondering if they pay for themselves rather quickly or not. they appear to be more geared towards heavy woods riding protection and look like they would work against a mud rider as they would fill with the goo and KEEP it around the boot. Of course one boot may be $100 from the dealer for all I know. . thanx, crossy

I had a pair on my vinny, and took them off. To hard to clean behind them after a hard day of mudding. 3 years with no cut cv boots without them

You are right that cv guards will hold mud... they are for dry/rocky/woody terrain.

That's why they have hoses, my friend !! After having to pull an axle to fix an inboard torn boot, and a damaged outer, I find boot protectors to more than pay for themselves just in lost repair time for that one stray stick or rock that ends your riding day, or the damage that goes unnoticed until the CV joint is bad, and you need a new one or another axle.
