Prairie 400 carb Question
#1
Hi guys:
My prairie 400 was flooding out, I took the carb apart and found the float was holding gas in both sides. I replaced the float and replaced all parts contained in rebuild kit. I just had the quad out for a drive and it ran great until I got about a mile from camp when it sputtered and died. This happened just after going down into and out of a desert wash. I noticed some gas coming out of the carb overflow line.I walked back to camp and got the truck. When I returned I was able to start the quad and get it loaded. I,m thinking I need to adjust the float? What do you think? How do you do this adjustment?

The fuel should stop flowing when the float arm (the metal piece that attaches to the float and the pivot pin) is parallel with the carb/float bowl mating surface.
Bend the metal tang that touches the float needle to adjust.
If you can't get the fuel to stop, the float needle and seat need to be cleaned or replaced. But you did that already.
Here is a video on it.

Service manual says fuel level should be .5mm +- 1mm above the bottom edge of carb body (float bowl seam).
Float level should be 17mm, +- 2mm.
Setting float level is the starting point. Then attach clear hose to nipple on bottom of carb and supply fuel. Then, with about 18" of clear hose with the end as high above carb as you can get, turn on the fuel. The carb should be level first. The fuel level in the carb will match the fuel level in the hose but you may need to drop the hose level down few times to get out any air bubbles. You cant raise the hose back up without starting all over otherwise the fuel level will not be correct.
