i had a bayou that was doing the exact same thing except i didn't replace the carb. i just had to clean it 6 times and finally got the grit out. report back later after you've tried these steps. we'll be looking for the replies.

 

i finally sold my bayou and the next guy sure did put the miles on it. he needed for a hunting quad. so, i cut him a deal. he still drives it to this day.

 

Sorry I have not been on here in a long time. Finally was able to tear into the 4 wheeler over the weekend and we may have discovered the problem. When we took the engine apart we discovered that the rocker arm inside was broken into 2 pieces. No wonder it was always clanking really loud. Now i am waiting for the parts to come in this week and try to fix it. the hard part will be getting the timing on track again. Then running all new wire through it, to try and get the starter working.

 

multi-bummer! . glad you found it though!plenty of info and videos out there on TDC and rocker arm installation, Top Dead Center, etc.....you may even buy a Haynes book for your quad. it'll explain it and have pics.

 

We hope that it is thr problem because if not we are out of ideas.

 

sorry i missed any comments about the clanking. i didn't know it was doing that. BUT, don't worry, we'll get you fixed up on the rest of it after you change out the broken parts. fuel delivery and wiring ain't that bad to chase after. just takes a little time.

 

I have a 1988 Kawasaki bayou 220 that won't start.It has new carb new coil new plug freash clean gas where do I go next
