Default bayou 220 choke cable has spring tension

we ordered a new choke assembly and cable.have it all installed but for some reason,if you try to use the choke it has spring tension and pops back into normal run operation.
bayou runs fine but have to throttle it to get it to start since the choke will not stay open.
any suggestions? thanks

let it sit out in the rain for a couple years till rust gums up the cable. :P that's what they did to mine before I got it.

Some handlebar levers/***** have an adjuster to increase the friction. If yours hasn't, try putting the old spring back on at the carburettor end of the cable.
