Default What Sport cc Quad

Hey guys I am looking to buy a sport quad. I was wondering what cc to get. I'm 16 and I didn't know whether to buy a 250 or 450. I want to stay under 4k dollars. I'm looking to use it in the mud and do trail riding and hill climbs. Possibly maybe a xc race here and there. Any advice would be nice I want it to be pretty new also. Thanks

Skip a 250, unless it is a 2 stroke. For general riding, a 400 class is perfect. If racing is a legitimate goal, then a 450 is usually where you need to be to be competitive. Now I ask, and be honest, how well do you intend to maintain the machine? Do you have $$ to fix things and do routine maintenance? When I raced xc, it was nothing to need a few hundred dollars on new parts every race, and 450 rebuilds get expensive. For most, a 400ex.or z400 is all the quad they really need. Maybe a Raptor 700.

I can do a bit of service on it. I'm not planning on getting into racing big time. Just local races that are put on at local trail club. What would be better for that? could a utility be an option?

400 ex or ltz are priced right, have lots of aftermarket support and for the most part are pretty reliable.

Default I have the answer!

Do not get a 250cc they are not worth it. Also you want something clutch drive even if you don't know how to drive clutch. You can learn in about 10mins it's supper easy. Buy a 400ex they are Honda, tough as nails, and can easily find cheap parts new or used. These bikes are extremely fast for a 400 but easy to drive. I am also 16 and my first bike with clutch I drove was last year and it was a 400ex. Fun, reliable, fast and can be bought pretty cheap. Used parts are everywhere and new parts are cheap. Do not get a Kawasaki I have a bayou and the parts are extremely expensive compared to a Honda. Message me if you want I can tell you what bikes are worth getting and what they are worth.

If you do get a kfx 400, don't worry, it's really a Suzuki ltz400.

I would go Honda tho. Way cheaper parts and way easier to find used parts for it. Kawasaki parts are to expensive I have one it's a good bike but expensive parts.

Both good quads. Honda being air cooled is a little less maintenance. The ltz's tended to be a tad bit quicker, but simple sprocket changes can change either one. The later z's had a little bit better suspension.

So many used and aftermarket parts for both, a good shopper will find a deal on either one.

Sit on a few. Find the one that fits you best. The more comfortable you are on it, the better you'll be able to ride.

Yes they are both great bikes and fast too. The 400ex has reverse too not sure about the ltz. You can pick up a 400ex for $2000-3000 for a nice one and having 4K you have plenty of room for extras
