Default 06 Prairie 360 Issues

Hello again everyone. I just purchased a 2006 Prairie 360 4x4 to plow with and for my wife to ride. Overall, it's in great shape and I got a steal on it. However, it's not without some faults. First, it's a pain to get in to stay running when the motor is cold. Full choke and I still have to play with the throttle. When you're riding it and come to a quick stop, the motor dies and almost always requires a little choke to start, regardless of how warm the motor is. Second issue, the belt squeals at an idle. Doesn't matter what gear you're in, if the machine is idling, the belt is squealing. Third issue is that sometimes, i'd say 60% of the time, when you try to stop, the belt won't disengage and will try to push through the brakes. When you do get it stopped, as soon as you release the brake, it will start moving forward on its own. It does the same thing in reverse as well. While i'm riding, i can hear a clicking/buzzing sound coming from the belt housing occasionally too. And finally, the fourth issue is, possibly not an issue at all. when i engage 4wd, I have to roll forward about 6 feet before it will actually engage. Is this normal? 4wd works great (once engaged) and the diff lock works as it should.

A few other things to help diagnose, the PO said he just put a brand new (not OEM) belt on. I believe this since he snapped 3 bolts off in the housing doing this. However, I HIGHLY doubt he knows anything about belt deflection and more than likely, never checked it. It runs great, doesn't smoke and seems to have been well taken care of. Any help and insight is greatly appriciatied everyone. This is my first CVT Kawi before so I'm a bit new to all of this.

On the 4wd engagement, I notice I have to go a few feet for it to kick on my Brute Force so I guess that's normal for Kawasaki 4x4 quads. It will go back to 2wd almost instantly once disengaged though. I just make sure if I see a situation that looks like it might require 4x4 that I engage it a few feet before I get there. And if something else is coming soon I just leave it in 4x4 instead of constantly engaging and disengaging.

With regards to your other problems, you seem to have symptoms of a clutch that isn't disengaging properly. Check the belt and variator mechanism and set it up, this may help with the starting too, though you may also have to clean the carb out, as the symptom of needing extra choke is that of a partially blocked jet.
