Is there a thread for the reverse lockout here?

The part that "broke" on mine was this circle piece that goes on the end of the shift drum. it has a little triangle nub that "grabs" a hook and stops the drum from going into reverse. The reverse lever that allows you to go into reverse moves this hook out and allows the circle to turn. The problem with my circle was the little triangle nub of metal broke off and went who knows where. I had to tear into the side of the motor and remove the gear box/driveshaft but at least I did not have to pull the motor and split the case. The piece itself is a little pricey by itself because i'm pretty sure it's discontinued, I ended up getting a used drum with the piece for cheaper.

This is most likely the problem with mine. I've dealt with the half shift for so long, I am used to it. I'll probably just deal with it a little longer.

It's not too bad a job if that's what the problem is. The hardest part is dropping the rear end and pulling the driveshaft and PTO. Disconnect all the brake cables and the differential cable before dropping it or you will damage them. Other than that it's just standard disassembly. If I had to do it again I would leave the wheels on and unbolt it and roll it out from the atv.

I too want to thank you. Hubs has a 86 Bayou 300 with no pull start. We also noticed a magnet just having a good time in the fly wheel. When we started researching the cost of a new one, we were a little shocked at the prices. So, I started searching and here we are. Fingers crossed this is the only issue. The trails are calling our names!

I have a 1987 bayou 300 and I have upgraded to 1991 flywheel, stator and pick up coil. It ran great before the old magnets came off the original flywheel. It no longer has spark with the 1991 parts. Any suggestions?

Check your pickup coil is working, that is the only bit that affects the spark. Buried in this thread is something about the B type ignitor box being different, but that would only affect the spark timing, it should still spark. The system is the same as 1980s cars, not CDI, 12v pos is fed to the ignitor and coil from ignition switch, when ignitor gets a signal from pickup coil it sends a negative pulse to coil, which produces a spark.
