Default Is oil filter 'guide pin' required on KLF300C

Hello, I recently purchased a 1994 Bayou 4x4 KLF300C. I was changing the motor oil and filter, and discovered that the filter did not have what my repair manual calls a 'guide pin'. This part is unavailable online, only the 3 little components that attach to the pin are available.

So, curious if anyone knows what the function of the guide pin is, and basically will my oil filter function properly without it, in the case I am unable to find this part through the dealership. I know it has a bypass valve and such in it, so it seems like it might have more importance than just guiding the filter into place or what have you.

Thanks very much in advance.

Don't know where you get "guide pin" from, it is "filter mounting pin", which is a better description, in my book. Babbitts have it, part number 16156. https://www.kawasakipartshouse.com/o...ump-oil-filter note it is called something different again!

Thanks Merryman, I don't know why my Clymer manual called it that... I did call the local dealership and was able to get it. Like you said, called something different altogether. Thank you again for your help.
