Shifter sticks when downshifting
#1
I have a 93 300 4x4 Bayou and it just started acting up on me. When I down shift the shifter sticks and I have to lift it up with my toe to put it into gear. What causes this and how can i fix it?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Double check and make sure that your shifter isn't getting hung on the side of your motor or possibly the footpeg. I had some trouble with the shifter on our 220 and discovered that the shift lever was bent and becoming caught under the recoil starter cover. Shift it with your hand and see if you can see it or feel any internal resistance.

Hey... My Bayou 220 does that same thing, but not all the time. Usually only after riding it real hard or long for the entire day. The shifter seems spoongy and gets stuck shifting down and I have to lift my toe to get it to engage gear.
My quad is 250 miles away from me right now, so i cant really check to see if it is rubbing, but I suspect after looking at the diagrams I have in my repair manual, it looks like it could possibly be a clutch spring? I *think* it is this: 92144B 92144-1359 SPRING,CHANGE SHAFT RETURN
Found that on buykawasaki.com parts diagrams. Very useful, but not sure how easy that would to be to replace.

Thanks for the info. The shifter isn't catching anything so it must be the internal spring. Lets hope it's not tough to get at. lol Looks like I'll be out shopping for a shop manual tomorrow after work so I don't make the poor quad worse than it is now. I'd just hate to pass my hard earned money to the dealer.
