I am considering the purchase of a Pr650. I noticed that there is no rear skidplate (probably to conserve weight). Is there one available from Kawasaki or an aftermarket source? That case looks very vulnerable to large stones.

Yes Kawasaki does offer a rear skid plate for it. I'm not sure what the cost is , but I have the 02' brochoure(sp?) and it shows a picture of it. There is probably after market companys making the too. go to the buykawaski web papge and check to be sure

Kawasaki Makes three additional skid plates. An alumnum replace for the standard skid plate, alumnum CV covers, and a alumnum rear skid plate. They all run between $94 and $99 each.
