Prairie 650 overheating problems
#11
All 650 are from the same dealer, one issue here is that the ride has lots of MUD, even though the front of the radiator was clean (when we washed them) apparently the back was very dirty, as of now the problem seems to be that the front and rear of the radiator are extremely cover by plastic and there is no way for the MUD to get out when it gets in, let you know the outcome from the dealer as soon as we get something from them.
Regarding de Wolverine, yes it is a FST 500 version, it runs great, I've had it modied for about 1.5 years with no problems at all. The carburator I'm using is the original that comes with the machine, what I don't remember is the jet size I'm using.

You three should have each picked two numbers and bought a powerball ticket Your chances of having three brand new quads all over heat at the same time might have been a sign from above. L.O.L

I took the 650 out to one of the islands on a job for the US Army Corps of Engineers this week. We used the quad to transport materials and equipment from the beach head to the work site. We found a wood pallet that had washed up on the beach and tied it to the back and used it as a skid. I pulled acouple of 300 lb loads through the sand, and the quad never even grunted under the strain. The temps were in the low 90's and the fan ran pretty much the whole time when under a load, but never got hot.
One of the USACE guys is a hunter up in Vicksburg, MS. and he's going to buy one after riding mine. A test ride is the best sales tool !!!!!

An update from the dealer
Apparently Kawasaki was able to reproduce the problem, no official solution yet, but let me at least explain the things they have found.
The overall problem is the combination of MUD and TEMPERATURE. As soon as the mud hits the radiator or the motor, because of the temperature, it dries inmediately and saturates the radiator in the front and back, because of the covers it has in both sides, the mud just piles up and never gets out once it is dry. They are testing air deflectors and meshes attach to the front of the quad (something similar to what the OLD TECATE came with), as soon as we get an official answer will let you know.
Another finding is that with the wheel rotation, the tyres are pushing water, mud, sand, etc to the back of the radiator and in this case mud gets inin liquid form, dries inside and has no way of falling because of the plastic covers.

Check this tread that I posted a couple of weeks ago http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...hreadid=286935
As of now, we haven't had any problems after doing this changes.
