I have a Mojave that is all stock. Today I got decided to go cut the front fenders (they came out pretty nice, similar to what lurch has done to his). In the process of cutting the fenders I removed the mud flaps (told you it was stock), their mounts, the mount for the fenders, removed the stock "nerf" bars, and cut the fenders. After everything was removed I through all the parts on the scale and they totalled 16 pounds!

I went out for a little test ride and was surprised, it actually made a difference. I doesnt really feel faster but in 5th it hit the rev limiter which it didnt used to do (hope that was the rev limiter anyways [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] ). Now I want to pick up some DG nerfs and some aluminum wheels with Holeshots mounted. I'll pick up a bit of weight with the nerfs but oh well.

Now I need to invest in some shocks, think I'm going to get the Works dual rates w/ rezzies for the front and the Quadstar for the back (I wont be racing so this should probably good enough).

I also need a pipe, whats a good choice for the Mojo?

 

did you read my fourm from eariler anyway i did the same except i didnt have the nerv to cut the fenders... but with all the gear off as you stated it really helped out with the weight and one more thing i did was to get rid off the anti-frz bottle over flow.. i cut the hose and took an oversized pill bottle drilled a whole in the top and stuck it under the cowl with zip ties and put about 3ozs of anti-frz in it and away i went. that made a difference... hay you should get a drill bit and bore out your own muffler... i made a 3/4" drill that was one foot long and drilled thru two chambers in the stock exhaust and hello the front wheels were up in the air... no joke.... now thats done im going to up one main jet and put a stock size k@n filter in it ... i though about takeing the air box off but it would not be a good idea here where i live in the desert of Neveda... until i find some more tricks or you do let me no thanks Jim N.Las Vegas NV

 

The fender were really easy to cut. I used a jig saw with a really fine blade and took it close to my line. Then I used a file to knock down the rough stuff and the final shaping. After that I used an orbital sander with 150 grit paper to finish it up. It looks a lot better, looks like a sport quad now instead of utility. I dont know if you've checked out lurches website but there is a pic of a flat tracker in there and I did my fenders like that one, actually thats were I got the idea from.

I was really surprised out how much all that junk weighed. I think I'll bypass the overflow as well, I dont really like where its at and now its only supported at the top since the bracket for the mud flaps was removed.

 

Oh, I also found DG steel nerfs over at MotoMan for $99, I dont know if they could be had cheaper but this is the cheapest I've found so far.

 

I would not recommend Dg steel nerfs they are small and bend easily my Friend put them on his MOjave and they are horrible. Get the aluminum nefs they are way bettr for the price.

 

i would go with graydon pro line nerfs. they are alluminum alloy and really light and very durable, that's what i have on my 250X, and i haven't hurt them yet.
