The complaint is when getting on the throttle and definitely when you get off the throttle at crawl speeds. I put the bike on jack stands so I could run it in gear while keeping my ear next to the transmission. I took the converter cover off and examined the drive pulley system in all gears while running. I turned the bike off, put it in gear and moved the back wheels forward and back. It made the exact sound I call clanking. There is play in the transmission that I believe is normal. When you are on and off the throttle you are applying torque and then removing the torque. I am satisfied that this is the clanking.

I did notice that in all gears including neutral my drive pulley makes rattling that I think is excessive.

Jefffoxsr,

It is the transmission. If you want to be sure try going across some bumps and gently apply the rear break only. What will happen is that the wheels will bounce over the bumps and once they are airborne they will lock up and the transmission will go CLUNK. Hit the bump again and you will hear CLUNK again.

I think it is pretty harmless but if the sound increases you should better drop it at your dealer for a check.
