I've always done all my work and repairs on my atvs myself. But this time I'd figure I'd take my new 650 in for its first service since it has about 200 miles on it. After I picked it up, I took it straight home and I figured I would double check all the fluids in it. First I checked the rear diff fluid. I couldn't even see any oil in the diff. So I drained it and about 6 oz. came out when about 32 oz. should have came out. Then I checked the front diff. Same thing. About 6 oz. came out when 16 oz. should have been. I also checked the motor oil. The level was about 1/2" over the full line! What is going on here? I'm so pissed because I just paid $100 for nothing. Secondly and more importantly this is a brand new 650 4x4 with only 200 miles on it. It is basically new and I don't want to have any problems with it. What should I do? My father called the dealer up and talked to the mechanic and he apologized. Should I call Kawasaki? I just don't want to have any problems in the future because of this.

On a side note, the mechanic did disconnect the choke cable at the handlebar because it was causing it to run too rich. The mechanic said it runs much better now. (I wouldn't know though because I'm busy changing all the fluids in it)

I wish they would extend my warranty, but I'm sure that won't happen because I already bought the extended warranty a while back.

Also, the mechanic did say that almost all the 650 quads have the problem with the choke. If they don't now, they will get the problem eventually. The cable is too short.

I heard that a new choke cable (longer) is coming out soon from Kawasaki, but not available yet. I'm not sure if you have to pay for it or replaced under wty. By the way, I think you should still call Kawasaki and let them know about the dishonesty of the dlr so that they are aware and monitor this dlr.

Yes, I would definitely report it to Kawasaki. You might even find it easy to do so by checking their website at www.buykawsaki.com. Such service reflects badly on other Kawasaki dealers.

You probably already know this but dealers cannot void your warranty if you perform your own periodic maintenance including the "first service". This battle was won in the courts a long time ago. All you need do is keep a written record of the required service items having been done during the warranty period.

springdrl, I was going to do the first service myself. In fact, Jeffoxsr gave me the info and told me that it doesn't void my warranty if I do the first service myself. But I took it in and figured I'd let the dealer do it. (big mistake)

I would call kawi and let them know that the dealer has a bunch of idiots working on their machines. Eventually if enough people complain the manufacturers will set up a strict program to pull the dealer's authorization after a certain number and nature of complaints. Then maybe we'll get some accountability. Right now the problem is the dealer and it's owners have NO accountability, so they hire monkeys that will work for the lowest price rather than paying extra for a qualified person. They don't care if these guys screw up the quads because there's very little impact on their business. It would be nice to say that owner's should do this without the manufacturers forcing them, but that's not reality. Only a complete idiot would do the things mentioned above.
As far as unhooking the choke, until the new cables or whatever comes in there needs to be a better solution than unhooking it because it probably won't start without a choke as it gets colder. I know mine won't start without choke right now. Sorry to hear about your situation.
