The difference a GOOD vs BAD dealer makes
#1
I have been having problems with my loose steering on my Rubi so I decided to take it to the dealer I purchased it at. I had a few other problems that I wanted fixed too. When I dropped it off the guy, who was the head mechanic, agreed that the steering was loose.
Well when I picked it up it said on the invoice that the play in the steering was normal. I proceeded to check with the head mechanic what the deal was. Before I could find him, I checked some of the other Rubi's that were in their for service. None of them had the play. When I found the mechanic he said that the play was in there because of my oversized titans and that it was not covered under my warranty. I asked him why I wasnt told this when I purchased the machine. He had this poker face on and said he didnt know what I was told. He then asked if I read the warranty before bought the tires. I left there upset but figured it wasnt worth arguing with him. While driving home I thought, well if it wasnt covered by the warranty why didnt they call me and tell me this before picking up the machine? Perhaps I would have had them fix it anyway. And why didnt it say that on the invoice? Why did the invoice say that the play was normal? I decided to stop at another dealer who was selling the warranty cheeper then the place I bought the machine. A salesman (who I had previously purchased a snowmobile from) told me that the steering should have been tightened in my initial service. He also said that even with the tires their shop would honor the warranty. I asked what wouldnt be covered because of the tires. He said if I broke a axle. But then he said that if that happened I could just put the old tires back on it. Not very ethical but he said that they would never know. He did not indorce this by the way, he just mentioned it. He also said that if the steering was not covered by the warranty he would pull some strings to make sure I didnt pay.
Needless to say I will never go to the first shop and always go to the second. Lesson learned just because one dealer is crap doesnt mean the next one down the street will be the same. A good dealer IS a prime consideration when purchasing a machine. By the way I saved 100 dollars purchasing the warranty at the second shop.
