Superwinch on Prairie 650
#1
I'm installing a Superwinch on my 650 Prairie, and I have a couple questions for others who have this setup.
1. Where did you mount the switch? I want to mount it to the handlebars (for plowing snow), but it looks impossible without cutting the plastic. I would prefer not to have it on the rack.
2. What did you do with the circuit breaker that gets mounted on the positive terminal of the battery? It doesn’t look like there will be room for it there. I was thinking of cutting the positive cable in 2 pieces, and then putting the circuit breaker in the middle, rather than at the battery. What have others done?
Thanks.

Hey 650VTwin, I've also been wanting to mount a Superwinch winch on my 650. The hole patterns don't fit. I've looked at the Warn plate they have out but it doesn't seem possible to drill holes in it for the SW winch(it's not long enough). How are you mounting yours? I've been looking tiredlessly for a solution. Thanks!

TX650, I mounted it all up yesterday, now I just have to do the wiring. I got a winch mount from my dealer, which looks like it will fit either a Warn or Superwinch. It’s a “genuine” Kawasaki part (# KVF-006). It raises the winch about 3 inches, so that the roller fairlead fits in the space between the steel grill, and the top of the skid plate. Your dealer should be able to get one for you.

Same story with my Superwinch. I got mine dealer installed and had to
rework it to get it done to my satifaction. The metal plate was cut to
fit and reworked to have it attack to the positive lead and the breaker. The metal plate I'm referring to,is the "L" shaped piece with the holes in it. The breaker sits on top of the battery, right beside the top portion of the battery hold down. I was thinking of runing a lead from the battery to a 50A breaker, a breaker with a mounting tab, but then I could find no place to mount the breaker. There isn't much room under the seat to mount anything, it's pretty crammed under their with relays and all sorts of electrical components.

Yeah, I ended up cutting the 'L' plate, and there’s just enough room for the breaker right beside the + terminal. I had to mount the switch on the rack, which will do for now. This plastic around the handlebars is a real pain; it also makes it impossible to mount any decent handguards.

Where do you ride? Any good trails down your way? I presume you got your machine at Corunna. My unit is not even a month old yet, and I love it. Kawi sure out did themselves with the 650. Up here in my neck of the Woods, it's Polaris country, or was before the Vtwin came to town.
