I've had my Kaw 650 in water up to the bottom of the fender wells and that was with no modifications to any of the air intakes. When I had my Grizzly 660 you couldn't get anywhere near water without it spitting and sputtering - it was really bad.

I've had my new Griz in water over the racks, no problem, I had a pocket in the middle, so where I was on the machine the water was about 6" over the floorboards. The sputtering problem is usually the front differential LOC rev limiter connection, a black connector, behind the front differential. Filling the connector with di-electric grease should fix the problem. Not all 02 Griz's have this problem, but some do. What did you do with your 660 Griz Oldman Wheeler? Does not seem as though you would get rid of the Griz for a easly fixable thing like that, and by the way ATV Sport magazine in its new issue rated the new Griz the top machine it looks like to me. The new 650's front shocks are way to soft and non-adjustable, according to them. So all you 650 owners don't get mad a me, I for one like the 650 Kawi.

GrizRodder, If you read Dirtwheels October issue, it rates the Prairie as better overall than the Grizzly. In the Jan./02 issue, it rates them as a virtual tie, depending on whether you like a sporty ride (Prairie best) or a comfortable ride (Grizzly best). They rated both of them better than the Polaris 700, and it better than the Bombardier Quest for overall performance. Another magazine rated the Suzuki Vinson as best quad overall (I don't understand that one as the Vinson is only a 500 cc. machine and doesn't have the power and speed of the top 650 to 700 cc. machines---it may be the best 500 cc. machine though). In the Polaris forum someone posted that the Polaris 700 was rated best (I forget which magazine he was referring to) so it depends which magazine you read and the type of riding you do. It sounds to me that other than a couple of early Grizzlys coughing a bit, they can all pretty much swim!

ATV-Mag.com rated the Polaris number 1. They made remarkable claims like the Polaris would outdo the Prairie at aggressive trailriding and also took points away from the Prairie for having brakes that worked too well. I've never had this problem and cannot see how a machine with 150 lb.s more weight and and irs could even stand a chance against the Prairie. They also claimed that the Prairie was the slowest of the four contestants. They also crapped on the Grizzly for silly things like the protective covering on the racks and also claimed the brakes were too soft. I cannot for the life of me figure out how they rated the Polaris better here with its single brake lever. I think if you read the article you will come away in total awe of their obvious b.s..

Hey GrizRodder, I picked up my Griz at night so I couldn't really check it over. The next day when we went riding all of the plastic snaps kept coming apart and I spent more time snapping them back together then I did riding. Bottom line was my Yamaha dealer didn't want to stand by the product he sold me for $7,000 so I went to the Kaw dealer and traded it for a Kaw 650. I love the 650 it fits my riding style much better then the Yamaha did. The Yamaha dealer is crying 'cause everyone keeps asking him why there is a Yam 660 sitting at the Kaw dealer with only 27 miles on it. I guess it prove the importance of taking care of your customers. He didn't believe me when I told him I would trade it for a Kaw if he didn't take care of the problem. It was well worth the $500 the trade cost me 'cause I know it has cost the Yamaha dealer thousands of dollars.
