650 Prairie Vs. Scrambler 4x4 (500 or 400)
#31
My prarade was in phoenix, not likely to ever rain on it.
You obviously know more about cvt clutches than I do. I realize from reading the plaris posts that there are a lot need for cvt retuning when people mess with.
This is something I do know for a fact:
- my friend's polaris did not clutch right after putting a pipe on it.
- other friend's Kawasaki 650s clutch perfectly after doing engine mods.
A lot of people have put pipes, filters, airbox mods, and jet kits on their 650 on their 650 prairie and not a single one of them has needed to adjust CVT clutching on their 650, so although I am not a cvt expert, I am not in the least worried about it.
You are absolutely right about the sp700 clutch, but my point previously about the reason the 650 beats the 660 is correct. The Prairie 650 twin puts out much more torque at lower RPMs than the griz, and that is the principal reason for the difference in low speed in power on the griz and prairie.
I am sorry I erroneously said the 700 had a detuned motor, it has more hp than the 650, but the detuned clutch ad extra weight are probably the biggest reasons.
Other people have called it detuned, mainly because it is a reduced bore snowmobile engine. That is not what detuned means.

Kingmont. If you read the article a bit more there seemed to have been a typo. The top speed was listed in one instance as 76 and farther along in the article it was listed as 67. I would think that 67 is probably the closer of the 2 for a 650.

Hey kingmort ,how do you like your new wheels?I also had a wolverine, traded it on my 650 at adventure motors ,New Glasgow.Where did you get yours? No problem with mine yet,got the first servicing done last week, they changed the choke cable and some type of spring in the carb,It does seem to run better now,not that it was bad before.Ordered a windshield from Blairs'in truro, they were the only dealer that had them. Can't wait for the harbor to freeze over so I can really check out top speed, got it up to 107 km/h but ran out of road.See ya!

Hey Cajun!! Nice to see another bluenoser,,,even if he is a caper!!!!lol.
I got my 650 at blairs, they were 5 bucks cheaper than anybody else.Half an hour closer, too.Mine seeems to be working fine but Ive only hit 100 kliks so far.I'm still not convinced that this thing is detuned ,though. For me , tuning is adjusting what is already there, not making modifications to the engine.Don't get your hair in a knot, guys!
