I was just wondering if someone could tell me what would cause the carb drain to leak gas once in a while. I was riding it for a couple hours this afternoon and I smelled gas so I got off and looked and there was a stream of gas coming out of the drain hose so I checked to make sure the screw was tight and it was. I shut the bike off and shut the gas off too. I came out a few minutes later and turned the gas on and I rode for another hour or so and no leaks. I did notice over the last couple of weeks that it does leak once in a while and then it will stop and be all set for a while. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem would be??

It sounds like your float is tring to stick. Their might be some trash in your bowl(carberator). I would take off your carb and make sure theirs nothing in the bowl. Then I would be sure and put a in-line fuel filter. Good luck.

Yeah I kinda thought it had something to do with the needle and seat but I took the carb off and cleaned it twice and the needle seems good,it moves real smooth and it has no rough spots. Maybe I should change it anyway.

I just went through this with my Lakota. It ended up being the float valve. They have a rubber tip on them and with the cold we get here (especially where you are!)they will become brittle and even get micro cracks, also due to the gas. Usually goes away after you run it because the heat will make the rubber tip expand and seal. I replaced the float valve and prob. resolved!

Thanks stebob. One of my friends is having some trouble too and we only started having trouble in the cold but we didn't know of anything in the carb that would mess up in the cold. Did yours just drip or did it leak just like the drain was open because when mine leaks it is a stream!

Like a river my friend. I would be willing to bet it's the float valve. I checked and adjusted my float height, no luck. Thought the drain screw was loose, no luck. Someone mentioned the needle, straight as an arrow and point still sharp, also did it with the stock needle, again no luck. Replaced float valve and wholla!

Yeah well I ordered a needle and seat from a genuine kawasaki parts dealer and it was only $22.00. Hope it helps.
