I've got a problem with my 650 that I have not read about happening to anybody else. Every time I go riding in deep snow or drifts my belt starts slipping. The engine revs right up,but the tires are not even spinning.I am going to make a guard to fit between the front fender mounts, to keep the snow from getting into the air intake, unless someone can tell me why I should not.

I am not quite sure where you are planning on putting that gaurd. But the transmission air intake is actually underneath the battery. The 2 intakes face the rear of the quad. I can't imagine that powder would be enough to make the belt slip completely. I sunk my 650 this weekend with only the steering wheel sticking out of the water. The atv stalled and I jumped off and let it float up out of the water. I was waiting for my brother to pull me out and I decided to see if it would start. It started up and I drove out of the pond the belt did not slip at all. Maybe you are having another problem causing the slippage.

Mine does the same when Im ripping through snow drifts. It won't do it on hard pack trails, only in fresh snow. Your not the only one.

I think that the clutch cooling air intake is right ahead of the handle bars, right behind the small inspection plate. What Kawlaris is describing I believe to be the exhaust for the clutch cooling. I was out in the snow with mine this past weekend and had no problems with the belt slipping, actually I have been out several times during the fall/winter without any problems. I would take the clutch cover off for inspection of the clutch/belt and for the possibility fo water/ice in there. Please let us know what you find and what the solution is. MJSTX

Fez, there's no chain on the 650(except for the camshaft chains in the motor). Bigshooter, all of my riding has been done in the snow and I have had NO problems whatsoever. I will look in my manual and see if there is anything in the troubleshooting guide.

I've heard that when riding in snow with our big bore machines we wil ocaasionally expierence slippage. I hear that when busting through a drift the snow deflects off the headpipe, muffler, engine, whatever is hot and the steam gets sucked up into the clutch vents. The clutch usually has two vents one sucks air in and one exhust the air from the clutch. Hope this helps.
