Drop those Dunlops but what about the belt?
#1
I've had my 650 for 11 months now. It has 6000km (3600 miles ) on it.
From the start, I changed the rear tires for Spyder-style Titans.
That was refreshing! It handles much better and grabs those curves on fire roads.
I've had to change the belt around 3000 km (1800 miles). It seems to be common on this model, but then again, all that power has to have its drawbacks. Has anyone found a miracle solution?

Nordik, the best solutions for the short belt life are not here yet.
My solution is learning to do it myself, it takes 10 minutes and is a piece of cake. I could even take a spare belt with me and the 3 tools I need to do it (phillips screwdriver, 10mm socket w/wrench and extension, 27mm socket w/wrench). I don't, cuz I don't think the belt will ever fail just like that on a trail.
Gates is going to make a belt for us soon. Keep your ear to the ground. It should either be better, or cheaper, or both.

Up here, you can ride for several days at a time. Check a map of the province of Québec, you'll see that there's a vast territory 3 hours north of Montreal where you can ride your little heart out. It's all mountains, forests, lumber roads and trails. Many Americans come in the winter and go snowmobiling in this area.
The same can be done with ATV's. You'll find the necessary accomodations at various outfitters.

I have to agree about the tires. Those DUNFLOPS are downright dangerous! I changed tires at 100 miles! Maybe I can find a 660 Grizz owner to sell'em to! LOL I put 26" on....see my signature for my combo. NYROC runs a similar combo. But he runs G.Y. Mudrunners frt, where I run ITP Spider Trax.

I blew out the sorry sidewalls on the Dunlops on my second ride. Not to mention beating up the wheels. I've been VERY HAPPY with the Titan 589 M/T's as they are 6-ply, have great traction and best of all...they have rim protectors. Bring on the rocks!

Badbama, I have the same tires on my 650. I am very happy with them, except for one small problem. I was getting some serious vibration through the handlebars at about 55kmh and up, so I took my new skins to the tire shop and asked to get them balanced. One was so far out that they couldn't balance it. The tire guy phoned Titan and they said "No problem. We will send you a new pair." They said it was obviously a manufacturers defect, so they would replace them. Gonna pick them up tommorrow. Except for that, I love these tires. They chew through the snow like there is no tommorrow, they love mud, and the six ply makes flats almost nonexistent. The dunflops are now residing in my backyard.
