I'm going to be repplacing the valves in my lakota and was wondering if i need to replace the valve springs or are they reusable? And i was talking to a guy and he said i need to replace the oil seals in there or something.

if your not going to change cams the springs should be fine.and yes it is always better to change the valve guide seals when you have it apart

bigbad400,

On the lakota even with a FST or web cam no heavier springs are required. From dennis kirk buy the moose top end gasket kit, has every thing for $25.

If you think your springs are shot for any reason let me know, I'll send you some .010" shims for them.

Might as well put a cam in it while you're at it. Especially if you don't have to replace the springs. I would.

I also have a 99 Lakota, tricked out pretty good (on the outside) no internal goodies tho!

Gaff what are shims? How will i know if my springs are shot?
Raptoid i would but i want a 400ex and i don't want to dump alot in my lakota and then get rid of it. I'm going to get my dad to fix the motor. I'm going to put douglas 190's on it with razor tires all the way around. And new plastic, set of renthals and dg front bumper. Then i'm going to put it for sale maybe 3500obo. Plus it's got like 2 years on the extended warranty the isn't worth a nickle. I plan on haveing all the parts up above by the end of the month.

You won't need the shims, The valve springs will be fine.
You can get a wiseco piston kit for less than a $100 and boring will be $50.

You shouldn't have to replace the valve seats, but the valve seals. Then just lap the valves in. It's going to cost you about $200 total.
