Hey all

I just got some titan 589 m/t's on itp c series rims and i mounted them and took it for a test run and I have a wicked handlebar shake. I had the tires mounted from rocky mountain atv and I had them put their version of slime in and I think it totally throws off the balancing machine when I went to balance the tires/rims. My friend is an mechanic and the place he werks has a tire machine. We put one of the tires/rims on it and it said one side need 8 ounces of weight....8 onces...! We then took another tire and put it on the machine and again it said it needed 8 ounces. I figured that they must have put 8 ounces of the slim stuff in and thats why it's off by 8 ounces. Now, i have used slime before and i know it stays a liquid, but it seem like the 8 ounce heavy side is always in the same place, like their version of slime isn't flowing. So i ended up not balancing the tires cuze of the slime stuff i had put in. I don't know the characteristics of their version of slime like if it starts flowing after the tire heats up or what. I road in front of my house doing 50mph shots and the shake never went away so i'm wondering wassup with this stuff they put it. I'm just wondering if anyone had a similar prob and if they were able to reslove it. I should have just got the tires/rims without the slime, balanced them then put slime in myself. I'm going to give them a call tommarow and see what they say. Anyway if any of you have ideas I'd like to hear them.

thanks

Too bad. You may have the right plan about balancing before putting slime in. You are also right about the slime being 8oz, since that is what most slime products recommend for ATV tires. Did your bud actually perform a spin balance and apply weights, then you tested it afterwards?

I have had the shakes, but I balance them myself with a cheap bubble balancer (my tire stores tell me they can't do it). It has worked well so far, but I haven't needed any slime.

I have never tried to balance anything that had slime in it. I would think that slime would be completely inefective if it were not very mobile. therefore, it would go to the furthest from the center during dynamic balancing. Since the same thing would happen on the trail, I would think in this case spin balancing would be fine.

I dismounted a tire with slime in it that was 2 years old. It did not flow. It was loose enough to move when hit, but pretty much did not flow due to gravity alone. I still believe your slime pretty well moves, not like water, but drips around slowly.

Are you sure you have the "shakes" caused by inbalance, or the "jerks" caused by excessive toe? Maybe you don't need to answer, 8oz inbalance is definitely enough to feel.
