I have a Bayou 220 that the rear tire is getting worn pretty bad on. The tire is a Dunflop K857, I think, in 22x10x10. I was looking for something a little more aggressive, but then just read in an ATV magazine that someone was looking for tires for theirs, was looking at Dirt Devils, I think, and the magazine suggested these tires are too agressive, and the bike doesn't have enough power to pull them. They suggested a Kenda Scorpion, or some other OEM style tire. I looked at the Kenda, and they don't have a size near one that would fit my rims. Do I have to worry about going too agressive? Should I stay stock? The bike runs well with the Dunflops, as I am amazed where the dang thing will go with the worn out ones, but I don't have anything else to compare them to either. Any suggestions on what tires would work well for this machine? Thanks.

Stay close to stock size. Weight is important with such a small motor like our Bayous have. I bought a set of Goodyear 22-11-10 that were take offs from a Lakota, they weigh only 1 lb. more than 22-10-10 Dunlops. I haven't worn out the Dunlop stockers yet and when I do I will buy Douglas .190 10x8 aluminum rims {they make them in 4x137 pattern, I called} to make the tire/wheel package lighter than stock. It's hard to beat the stock tires for weight but the tread pattern is limited and they are more expensive than aftermarket tires. Aftermarket tires are priced better, have good tread selection but usually weigh more than stocker 2 ply tires. Look around for deals on take offs when someone is changing to a mud or hi-po tires, sometimes they will sell cheaply.

Go to Walmart and get you a set of strykers, I dont remember who makes them, but I have them on my 220. They may be a lil heavier, but the motor will pull them just fine. I weigh almost 250 and with those tires on mine it'll go damn near anywhere I point it.

The lightest, best handling tire for that application is the Maxxis Sur Trak. They hook up really well dry and pretty good in mud. You can find them at places like Rockymountain atv or treaddepot.com for about $45 each.

I like the idea of the Sur Trak's, they have a more agressive tread that I think would work well, and guys that have them on their 650's really like them, but I was concerned about the 220 not being able to pull them. They are 2 ply like the Dunlops aren't they? Do you know the weight difference between them and the stockers? I will look at them, and also check Walmart as well.

Chief,
I am not sure of the weight, but I put a pair on my wife's former Recon just before she decided to sell it.

Opps! I hit enter by mistake and posted before I finished my thought. They were only slightly heavier than the stock Goodyear Trackers that came on it, but the were worth it for traction and especially stability on such a narrow quad.

Yes, they are 2 ply, but do have fairly rigid sidewalls.

They do weigh much less than comparable Bear Claws or Dirt Devils in my experience.

Ditto on the Strykers from Wal-Mart. Bought a pair not very long after I purchased my 97 model and have been extremely happy with their performance. Much better traction in sand and mud than the stock tires.
