Need some help. Went on a ride yesterday and had a stick break off a sensor. What I need to know is what this sensor is and what it does,it is the sensor that is on the right hand side(if you are sitting on the machine)down by the foot brake and I think it is on the swing arm infront of the cv boot.If it helps it is on page 40 of your owners manual underneath the clutch cover. The thing is that it pulled the sensor out of the housing that is bolted on the machine. The sensor seemed to be fine except the plastic part on the inside was bent a little, all I did was straighten it and put it back in. Should I buy a new one(probably expensive) or should I just seal this one back up with silicone? Everything seems to work ok but need some advice as to what to do. Thanks in advance Brad

Brad, the sensor your probably talking about is the speed sensor. I also had a stick break my sensor. I discovered mine was broke when the 650 would not go into 4WD in a bog. I just came through a river and the sensor was wet and muddy.

The 650 computer needs to read a speed above zero before it will switch to 4WD. With the sensor pulled out, the computer could not read any speed and would not swich. I cleaned off the sensor and popped it back in and it worked for the rest of the day (no water and mud=boring).

When I got home, I cleaned off the sensor and sealed it with goop. I took the housing out to fix it. Be careful as the housing goes in to tranny and oil will leak out. I drained the oil and did an oil change when I fixed it. I haven't had any problems with is since.

Kawi need to move/redesign this sensor. It placed in a poor place and sticks out to much. I suprised more people haven't had this problem.

It is good to see that people are using goop instead of silicone. This is a new millenium. Sqeeze out all your silicone into a jello mold and use stronger, longer lasting glue/sealant/carcinogens. Goop is awesome.

-Add spent dryer sheets to goop to repair the back of plastic to keep it thick and keep it from running.
-Mix automotive paint with goop to match your plastic's color to fix anything out in the open.
