650 carb synchronization
#1
Can you visually see if you carbs are not in synch? Can you put them in synch without a machine? I read somewhere if you add a aftermarket pipe you will need to have your carbs synchronized. Is this true? Hopefully I will install my dynojet kit this weekend and I need to know if I have to worry about the carbs. Any help greatly appreciated. I plan to jet at 132 front carb and 136 jet rear carb with the needles set on the 4th groove. I live below 3000 ft above sea level. I have never been much of a mechanic but feel I can handle this job as long as I don't strip the screws as I have been reading about.

Nope, you can't see if they are in sync (hear maybe, if your ears are really well tuned). I used to have an inexpensive carb sync tool, but can't find it. It was just a floating ball type that sits on the stack and the ball rose higher with more flow. I adjusted the balance screws until the one barrel was close to the reading on the other. I may order one. I hate to, but I don't like other people servicing my stuff.
If our 650's were even firing, they would only need one carb. But even firing would make them vibrate. Can't have everything.

Roc,
I have a few bikes in the garage (v twin & v four, plus the prarie)..so therefore I use a set of carb sticks on a regular basis..more often than most folks would use them..so take the info for what it's worth..(free)
I startrd out with a set of motion pro economy sticks from dennis kirk (about 40 bux) then after about 8-9 months or so the cover that seals the mercury got loose & I had to get more mercury..(you know that you can't get it locally, can't be shipped by air and is about 20 bux for a refill, right?) so after going through that, about 6 months later one of the tubes is cracked..so instead of having motion pro send me a new one, I ended up getting this one
carbtune it is about 80 bux (for the 4 cyl model) the 2 cyl model is cheaper (about 64 bux), comes in about a week, a lot more sturdy, & has no mercury.. I should have done it the first time..
I haven't tried it yet, but it is coming..
time for some maintenance on the bikes & quad..so I'll let you know how it works out..
