My modded p650 has oil spaying into the bottom of the air box from what I think is the oil breather tube and its getting into the carbs. It started on on my first 30 min. ride yesterday, after I had my dealer instal a IDSX pipe. The oil light is not coming on however I was running the bike against my stock p650 and when we finished the ride the cooling fan ran for at least 4 times longer than the stock bike's fan. The oil burrner was not running bad at all till the oil made it into the carbs, I thought that if a bike was running lean it would be cutting out or running ruff. does anyone know where I could look for possable causes.

 

The bike sounds lean. Typically, if a four stroke is too lean it will be down on power and run hot. It would need to be extremely lean to actually skip or run rough. Those are symptoms of being overly rich. If the engine is lean and running very hot, it could be misting the oil at high RPM's and blowing it up the vent tube. Also, if the dealer changed the oil while it was in, make sure it's not overfilled. If you paid the dealer to install the pipe and rejet the carbs, take it back and tell them to do the job right! Did you get your oil changed at the same time. If so check it for being overfilled.
Also don't over oil the air filter as it causes too much suction at high RPM's and can suck the oil right out of the block. I believe diamond G's snorkle helps as well.

right and wrong. if it's too lean it will run hot, but not lose power (unless it gets really hot!!) running it lean makes it tear! but will have your pistons sprouting moon roofs in the future if left too long!

 

The oil was changed the time befor last at the dealer. I had them check the bike because I thought it was running rich. they told me it was a little rich but knowing the modds I planed on adding they said they would check it later after they put the pipe on. It has tken about two months to get the pipe. they said they did'nt think it was going to need re jetted when I picked the bike up last week. Is there somre kind of oil lines that could have got crimped, and cause the oil to heat up or the pressure to rise?

 

You're right, a 2 stroke will rip if it's a little on the lean side, until it burns the piston. But a 4 stroke tends to slow when it gets too lean. If you doubt this, pull your air breather cover off, thus creating a lean condition. You will find that your power has gone south. It's the same thing as guys you read about on the forum that install a new pipe and filter but don't want to bother to re-jet. They're always complaining that their machine is weaker than when it was stock.

 

well i believe you, i have more experience with 2 strokes. i took the lid off the kodiak and it sounded terrible, a deep sucking sound came from the airbox, but more air, with the right amount of gas equals more power.
