THE MUNCHKIN RUN
#1
Hello to all you ATVer's I put on a post some time ago entitled the Munchkin Club to my cousins astonishment my cousin you all now as Alltoys. Again I am using his computer only this time he nows I am posting for all you to read. Just a little back tracking, Gary, alltoys has put together a group of people who have quads that contribute their time to teaching fundamentals of riding a quad and experiencing the great outdoors. Only a small few people have the ability to take in the wonders of our forests and still able to show the unfortuneate. Many times Gary has told me his mind is at work, his heart is with his family not to mention his Munchkins, but his soul is in the wonderment of the forest. His goal is at least I think so to have all who venture forth to appreciate the wonderment and keep it in their minds for as long as they live and maybe pass it on to their friends. Oh Yes I forgot we must also have fun.
The fun started on Saturday with a blueberry pancake breakfest with sausages and mash. Alltoys recipee won out the crowd kids weren't to happy with sausages but hey it still was good!! There was 12 Munchkins with family and 9 other familys from other runs Alltoys has put on so it was a full camp. We arranged an obsticle course with off cambers, logs, straight runs, tight corners so tight they had to back up to go forward, and a lesson in winching. Mostly the stuff you run into on a normal run in the bush. The kids practiced most all day Satuday and by the end of the day they were doing pretty well. They thougt old Alltoys would just let them take a bike and run with it, not a chance, proper instruction first then play. Munchkins did very well if they couldn't handle the machine then an operator would assist them no one was left out didn't matter everone had an equal chance. My son Shawn assisted Gary with the instruction I was so proud and Shawn was a great help just giveing my son a boost I now he will be reading this.
We even had a country band donate their time and a two quads it was excellent. After supper everybody put together a level floor so we could hear the band and have a little dance too it was like I said excellent. I think Alltoys said they had to sing for their supper, kidding of course
Sunday was another pancake breakfast then off to the mud. They all went on trip around a lake it took normally 4 hours to go around. This time it took 7 hours, they had snack breaks, barebecue lunch and a nature hike, truely a full day for anyone. When they got back almost everbody was muddy and talked about their experiences to their parents. The smiles and comaradery were endless when you put all the Munchkins together they looked like one big mud ball. The only thing shiny were their eyes and teeth mostly their teeth. The band played for us again that night even after an exhausting day don't now where they got their energy from. I beleive they said If we can do half as much as Gary in a day we will do good.
Monday was left for the familys, not to much riding was done everyone slept in till almost noon. We had awards for the Munchkins a number of companys donated gifts, T-shirts and caps to the kids a nice touch all the kids left with something.
Alltoys says his Munchkins had the time of their lives, the memories will last them a life time I only wish I could touch more. It's up to them to pass it on now with any luck.
On a sad note Little Suzan was one of Alltoys special needs kids she was feeling poorly didn't really have the energy to go full tilt like the others. Alltoys paid the most attention to her she was his little shadow most of the weekend. Suzan was pretty tired by Monday but so happy to be out in the willderness. Never has she seen so many trees in one place. She saw a moose, ducks oh yes wild ones, a Loon calling on the lake toward evening haunting she said. Suzan told me she was going to save up some money for Alltoys so she could by him some new clown shoes because the ones he has are falling apart. What a kid!!!
I with all the families truly appreciate all the trouble Alltoys and his group have gone through to put on the Munchkin Run. He touches so many lives, the happiness that comes from this outing is unforgetable. For once the Munchkins for at least a short time can focuss on something else besides the pain of Leukemia.
All you ATVer's are a wonderful breed my heart goes out to you all especially one. My son and I say farewell till next time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
